Are Fruit Juices Bad For Kids?? | Healthathon

7. What Are Your Thoughts On Juices? Do You Allow Them?

Mandi Turner:  Cardon Children’s Medical Center

No more than 6oz/day (100% fruit juice).  I encourage fresh fruit over juice.

Dana Stannard:   Cocoa Kids

We do but sparingly. They can have juice at breakfast but not lunch or dinner. They are allowed juice boxes but they don’t have them frequently. We feel like water is such a healthy option and juice just has unnecessary sugar and calories.

Amy Roskelley:   Super Healthy Kids

We are fans of homemade juices, and they can have a healthy place in a child’s diet. The recommendation is that no more than half your fruit servings for the day should come from juice, but it is a great way to get nutrients that kids may need. We don’t purchase juices very often if at all, but mainly it’s because we like to make them.

Hallie:  Princess And The Pump

Yes, we allow juice.  When she has a low blood sugar.  That’s it.  Juice is not just a “drink”.  Juice is medicine.

I love Juicy Juice!  I love their little 15g boxes that I can carry around with me and store all over the place!  That is often the perfect amount…  She can suck down one of those boxes in the middle of the night in 5 seconds flat without ever waking up.  So she definitely has her share of juice.  It’s just not quite like other kids enjoy juice…

  1. Juice is a treat for my daughter just like candy, and thankfully she loves water!

  2. Water is always the best choice! Thanks for your input

  3. I have a hard time holding my tongue about this with my sister. She started giving my my nephew juice in a bottle before he was 1-year, and sometimes would give it to him at nap time. I told her over and over again that it was not good to give him juice in a bottle, and definately not to give it to him to take a nap. Needless to say his baby teeth ended up rotting and he had to get silver caps over them. I made sure not to make that mistake with my kids once I started having them. They are water drinkers, and I rarely buy juice.
