Inner Wisdom: You’ve Got It But What Is It

By Joanna Lindenbaum

There’s this amazing thing we women embody. Every woman has it and it seems moms are the best at tapping into it. What is it? Your intuition – better known as your inner wisdom.

Have you ever been in a situation where a friend calls and needs to see you but you have work to do, laundry to fold, and kids to entertain. The idea of leaving your house to sip on a mocha-chino just doesn’t sound that appealing because you’d rather be spending that time doing other things. Yet, you say “yes” to your friend because you’re afraid of what might happen if you don’t.

You’ve just experienced your inner wisdom… and you’ve ignored it.

That little voice that told you “stay at home, get your stuff done!” has been ignored… once again. This little voice is your savior and sanity because it’s the one part of your body that knows exactly what is right for you and moves beyond reason and logic. Your inner wisdom has no concept of “rational”. Some people receive their inner wisdom through messages that come forth in their imagination. Others “hear” it and some just feel it in their gut. Everyone’s intuition is different but one thing is the same: it tells you what will be best for you!

The best part of your inner wisdom? It’s always there and it never strays. You will always know what to do if you just listen to that inner “voice”. Listening to your inner wisdom can help you in a number of ways: it’ll tell you when you’re too busy for the next big PTA event; it’ll keep you from spending $50 more at Target than you planned; and it can even let you know when something’s really wrong in your body.

Sometimes we’re actually listening to our intuition without realizing it. Think about the last time you had a gut feeling about something and stuck with that gut feeling. Internally, whatever decision your gut told you to make was ideally the best choice for you.

You have the ability to tap into your inner wisdom and intuition to really be successful at anything – be it the next DIY project you’ve been putting off or asking for a raise at work that you know you deserve. But how do you tap into it? You do a little homework and exercise. Just like your muscles need to be toned –so does your intuition. The more you work at it, the quicker you’ll be able to access it. The first and only step – find that inner voice the next time you have a dilemma and don’t second guess it. Don’t let fear or other factors get between you and your inner voice. Then repeat the process when you need it. If it helps, keep a journal of how you felt with each gut decision you made. You’ll quickly start to see how amazing your intuition really is.

  1. Hi Joanna,
What a lovely reminder for all women to listen to their inner guidance. Just yesterday I had a llok at my intuition journal and yes, a lot of what was in there reminded me of how my intuition supports me,
